Sariska Tiger Reserve

What a surprise when I heard that this reserve has actually no TIGERS!! I was for one minute shocked. Well I came to see some tigers and if possible catch them on my camera. But here I was where I am told there are none. All are poached. They are trying to get tigers from other sanctuary and not sure if they will actually get them.

They were happy to tell me there are few leopards but I didnt find any of them also. I was alone which meant I have to shell out more money for going into the forest. After much discussion some more joined and the price came down considerably. We went till PanduPole, where there is a temple for Hanuman. History states that when Rama was in vanavas and on the run from asura’s there was no place to go. Our Hanuman used his gada to break the mountain. Check out the photo below.

Alwar City (Rajasthan)

When I reached bus stand in Agra on October 16th it was around 6:30pm and I got to know there were no direct buses to Alwar and the next bus is in the morning 6:00 only. The ticket collector (conductor) was nice guy who said there is an alternative to get into the bus for Mowa and from there catch another bus to Alwar. Since I took the plunge into the adventure I went ahead and got into the bus. It was 9:30pm when the bus reached Mowa. I had quite a good conversation with fellow traveller who sometimes confused me time and again whether the word he was using was English or Hindi or Rajasthani. At Mowa another traveller who got down walked with me till bus stop where I can get bus to Alwar. At 10:00pm in the night the bus came. As soon as I got into the bus and found a seat I was to mediate between two fighting guys without any knowledge of Rajasthani and my limited knowledge of Hindi. One of the guy was drunk and he was sitting next to me. During the journey he also offered me sweets which I did take after looking at others who took sweet from him.
When I touched Alwar it was 12:00am exactly. I was shocked that this was not a village but rather a town. I actually wanted to spend my time in a village, but since I got down and no way of changing my plan I stuck to this town. I got into a cycle rickshaw and went around the city for 1.5hrs looking for food. In the meantime I confirmed that for Hotel accomodation I can come at any time. I stayed in Asoka Hotel right next to Alwar Bus Stand. The rent for one day was Rs.200/-. There was also street play happening all through the night, I wasnt much interested in that at that moment.

Next day morning (Oct. 17th) I took a bus to Sariska Wild Life Sanctuary where I got one more surprise. By the time I returned to the city it was evening. On the way back I had a chat with priest of a temple. He inivited me to his house during my next visit and also to stay along with him & his family. He stays in a typical village probably that would be a nice try next time am there.
From 9:30pm I roamed around the city, had my dinner in a road side dabba near the railway station. I had another interesting conversation with a Sardar and few others who visited the dabba. After dinner, I tried taking few shots of empty roads with my camera. My camera doest give good night pictures. When I returned to my room it was morning 1:00.

On Oct. 18th I vacated my room & with my bag went around the City Palace which houses Collectors Office, District Magistrate. I took general walk around this place.
Its a total difference.

After walking for around 3hrs around City Palace and unable to go to the fort since its Radio Transmitter Station, I returned to the bus stand took the bus back to Gurgoan.

Don (2006) – Movie Review

Don (2006), the movie has got few twists compared to the original though the storyline and the base is the same. I got reminded of few English movies Diamonds Are Forever (mid air fight sequence for the parachute), Con Air (transport of convicts), Fast & Furious (driving the car from below the truck). There were few other inspiration which am not able to map to a name though I have seen those movies.
The movie was infact boring till mid way through the second half, which was things changed slightly and looked to be little interesting. Sharukh does not have the fire in his eyes which Amitabh had. Sharukh physically does not give an image of Don but rather a guy who can only romance dancing around the bushes.
Priyanka Chopra actually doesnt do much in the movie except few sequence of dances and moving around with Don. Kareena Kapoor was almost an insult to Helen, the way she danced for the song “Yae mera dil”.
Bomman Irani does impress with his skills of acting and he does show he can take any role with lot of ease.
The background score has lot of inspirations.

Am not sure what is it that Bollywood producers dont find in India that they find in Malaysia. Almost the entire movie was shot there except the opening which is in Paris and one other sequence in India. Its actually depressing that they cant showcase India through movies.

If you can manage to wait and watch, do so. This is definitely not a must watch movie. If you can skip and save few bucks go ahead.

Agra Trip

From Gurgaon I had to go to Agra which was planned, but how to go. I knew that I had to take a bus to Dola Kaon in Delhi and from there another bus to Agra. Luckily I enquired at the bus stop with somebody and saved a lot of time. I took a cab to the Bus Stand and from there a bus to Agra. The bus stopped before Uttar Pradesh border and I also filled my stomach with very much needed breakfast.

The buses from Delhi can no more stop in Idgah bus stand in Agra and these buses stop well about 7-8kms away from Agra Fort. From there I took a cycle rickshaw after much fighting.

There are touts every where. These guys somehow want to put me in a hotel or convince me that I have to stay in a hotel.
After getting dropped to a certain point I walked about 2kms to Agra Fort, bought a twenty rupee ticket and I was quite surprised.

When I walked from the 2kms about 1.5kms was one side of the Fort but inside they restricted the people movement and only few sections could be visited. If they did allow public to climb the steps then probably I would have covered the entire outer radius of the Fort. I am not sure why they close the gate and didnt allow anyone to go up there.

From the Fort I walked another 1.5-2km to the Taj Mahal. There were lot of rickshaw guys who come pestering you to travel in their vehicle. But one should be able to say NO and keep walking. Its not much of a distance.
In Taj Mahal I bought another Rs.20/- ticket, walked in after security checks. The view was really amazing. I did time and again joined few people who were moving with guides to know about the place. Well, the history is known and there are boards almost everywhere. I felt these guides ad some spice masala into their stories..

I dont have much words to say about TM, its just good piece of work. Fortunately our people are not able to indulge in their graffitti work on the walls unlike in other places, check out the Fort photos for instance.

It was also strange to see two Ox being used to cut the grass with a lawn mower attached. Well technology with bit of tradition.

After this visit I had my lunch (well it was around 4:30pm) at the Taj Restaurant and then proceeded towards Idgah bus stand. This was a good 5kms walk and I did get an oppurtunity to see the city streets.
It does made me think what actually happens to the money collected from tourists spots and with so many tourists visiting every day.

Why is that some amount of money is not allocated to improve the streets and make it free from garbage atleast. Everywhere there are loads of garbage and working conditions of the people are really bad. From the new bus stand to Fort a goo 7kms and from Fort to Idgah bus stand a full 3-4kms needs lot of be addressed.

Yes, of course tourists dont take a step onto these streets so they wouldnt be knowing.

My journey continued towards Alwar for which I had to catch the bus. This would come up in next post.
