Starting on Saturday morning (29th April 2006) for the trip to Mysore with my parents and bro Shyam in my car, we reached the destination quite late. We had to roam around Mysore quite a bit before we found Hotel Maharaja where we had booked our stay. This hotel in JLB Road. Its quite a nice hotel but the drawback is that the rooms were Non-A/C and there was no lift in the hotel. We had to climb the stairs for full two floors to reach our room. It was tedious with luggage.
Before we went to Mysore we halted for breakfast in Kamath Hotel about 5kms from Chennapatna. This place is always crowded and we wasted some 1.5hrs out there just to have few idlis and dosa’s.
We drove down to Srirangapatna which also has Tipu Sultans fort. We were told to visit two temples out there.
One was Nimishambal temple, here it seems whatever you wish for in that minute of your stay over there it would get fulfilled. Unfortunately, I forgot all about it once inside, otherwise would have wished for something crazy!!! 🙂 This temple is located on banks of river Cauvery.
There is another temple for Sriranganatha inside Tipu’s city. It seems this whole place was called Rangapura before it was re-christined as Srirangapatna. There is a Hanuman’s (Son of Wind God, for more info check out stories on the Indian Epic Ramayana) statue which was donated by the Chola’s. This is quite an indication that this temple was built long before Tipu’s city was created.
There are few other points of tourist interest, though am damn sure that not many tourists would have gone there.
1) Tipu’s palace
2) Tipu Sultan’s burial point
3) Water Gate (it seems the britishers came in through this point by bribing the sentry, bribing in Indian society exists for long long time)
4) There is a dungeon.
There are two other points which I forgot.
In the evening of yesterday we went to Brindavan Gardens (also called as KR Gardens). The musical fountain out there was not impressive at all by any means. It was such a waste of time.
Today (30th April 2006) we went to Chamundi Hills and the speical darchan quite was sight since I thought almost everyone took this ticket to avoid standing in big queues. After having darshan of Chamundeshwari, we went to Mahabalashwaer temple and Narayana Swany Temple. Both these are on the hill only. Since it was quite early in the morning the clouds were passing through us. It gave an experience of lifetime.

Today afternoon I was driving down from Mysore towards Bangalore in my car. On the way there was this vehicle which overtook me and almost hit a bike. This guy (the driver) was driving so rashly still no one on the Tempo Traveller complained. There were about 10+ passengers in the vehicle.
Why was it that no one asked the driver to be more careful.
This vehicle had the sticker of PRESS in it. The registration number of this vehicle is KA-09-A-4439.
This was not once but twice when he tried to overtake me.
I am not sure to which print media this vehicle belongs to, I just hope they would be more responsible in future atleast.
I always thought that PRESS was supposed to be responsible and bring to light the rash driving by many drivers. But it seems fate has struck them, and quite hard.
I wish them all a safe journey.

In 2004 for first time I cycled to office and while returning it was raining heavily I had to find a shelter for sometime.
In 2006 I cycled to office for second time and what a rain it was yesterday for about 15mins. The sky just tore apart. I had to wait in my office for sometime before taking off.
The roads were flooded and vehicles splashed water on me while they crossed. Luckily I had changed my dress to shorts & a t-shirt.
Near Marthahalli bridge the chain came off and had to fix it before continuing. Still I managed to cover the distance of 15-17kms in 1hr15mins with all traffic and slush on the roads.
Luckily it did not rain while I was cycling.

Well for a starting its always better to practise and practise real hard. With only a week left for our big cycling plan, I thought I would practise the way I did for running marathons. So, today I cycled to my office. Its about 15-17kms from my home. Of course, one does sweat and we got a good gym facility in office. I did take my shower after reaching office, so no stink smell!!
Cycle gave a real good performance, especially when going down the slopes. I shifted to top gear and my cycle just zoomed down.
While climbing up a slope I reduced the gear to make it easier for pedalling.
It wasnt bad after all. Later in the day I need to cycle back to my home!!

Yesterday I managed to catch the bus 335E from Whitefield to Majestic (Kempe Gowda Bus Stand). Whats so special about this bus, well its one of the new Volvo A/C bus introduced by BMTC. The bus interiors looks very similar to the ones in Europe. Even Mumbai has few of these buses.
I heard from a lady in the stop that she was waiting for about 1hr in the bus stop and no sign of this bus. But in the opposite direction about 4 buses had gone.
That explains why they run in loss. So many people waiting for the bus for more than 1hr without any sign of it.
Is this a strategy by BMTC, anyway these people would wait let them wait. By the time they start some more people would come to the stop, which means more collection.
On 6th May 2006, I would be cycling along with Kribs and my bro Shyam to Chennai (Madras) from Bangalore. The total distance is close to 340kms.
I heard that some more guys would also be accompanying us.
This should be fun as I have never before cycled so much distance before.
I am going to start practising by cycling to office from home and vice-versa. Its about 40kms added up. I did buy myself a cycle yesterday.
Anyone interested is invited, do get your cycles along.
